Kayla fast asleep as George awaits his next meal

Bringing you home from the hospital was exciting and nerve wracking all at once. We were very ready to leave the hospital, (I’d been there for the past 5 days!) but then that would mean that we were on our own to care for you. No night nurse to take you for an hour or two so we could sleep. It would be all on us to change your diapers, know when to feed you, bathe you, and all the other innumerable responsibilities that come with being a parent.

Adjusting was tough, especially the lack of sleep. Your father was managing better than I was. Of course, I had the added complication of trying to figure out the whole breast-feeding thing (nothing prepares you for how hard it is!). But the other big adjustment was that there was now this tiny creature that my whole existence revolved around. I could stare at you for ours and never get bored. Each little quirk of your lip or brow had me smiling. I now cry at anything the least bit sentimental because it makes me think of you and how I am utterly head over heels for you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, George, and I love you more than I ever thought possible.
